WORK
As a consultant researcher, I wrote a 100+ page human rights guide for researching racial and religious discrimination in the national security context. It was published at a virtual launch on 3 February 2021 with Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, the UN special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, and Momodou Malcolm Jallow, the general rapporteur on Combating Racism and Intolerance for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
As a consultant researcher, I researched violations of civil and political rights as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and drafted a series of outputs, including an advocacy toolkit for challenging repressive Covid-19 measures and 10 country-specific facts sheets on the impact of Covid-19 on human rights in countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas.
As a campaigner on counter-terrorism and human rights, I researched and wrote a briefing on freedom of expression in Spain, which received extensive media coverage and contributed to the introduction of a new legislative bill. While on the Turkey desk, I worked on a range of crisis issues, from the 2016 coup attempt, conflict in Kurdish regions and arrests of Amnesty International colleagues.
